The word Advent comes from the Latin adventus (Greek parousia ) and means ‘coming’ or ‘arrival’.

The season of Advent is focused on the coming of Jesus as Messiah.

Our worship, scripture readings , and prayers not only prepare us spiritually for Christmas,
but also for the working out of His kingdom here on earth.

This is a penitential season, marked by the purple vestments and the absence of flowers in church.

The talks in church follow the theme through to Christmas.
The Sunday before Advent celebrates Christ the King and then we get into the preparation for his coming.
